Lily Gladstone Pays Homage to Her Heritage with Custom Look at the 2024 Oscars

In a groundbreaking moment at the 2024 Oscars, Lily Gladstone, the breakout star of Martin Scorsese’s “Killers of the Flower Moon,” shines a spotlight on her Native American heritage through a stunning custom ensemble, celebrating both her cultural identity and her remarkable achievements in the entertainment industry.
Making History on the Red Carpet:
Since her captivating performance in “Killers of the Flower Moon,” Gladstone has garnered global acclaim, recently making history as the first Native American to win the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture (Drama) and a SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role in a Motion Picture. Now, as she steps onto the prestigious Oscars red carpet, she does so in a look befitting of her groundbreaking achievements.
Paving the Way for Representation:
As a proud Siksikaitsitapi and Nimíipuu woman, Gladstone not only breaks barriers with her career but also continues to champion representation in Hollywood through her powerful sartorial choices, amplifying the voices of Native American creatives.
A Collaboration of Cultures:
For her Oscars ensemble, Gladstone collaborates with Joe Big Mountain and his wife, Sunshine, of Ironhouse Quillwork, renowned makers from the Mohawk, Cree, and Comanche Nations. Together with Gucci’s Sabato de Sarno, they create a custom gown that seamlessly blends traditional and contemporary techniques, resulting in a mesmerizing regal blue velvet gown adorned with quillwork motifs, symbolizing Gladstone’s cultural heritage and creative expression.
A Haunting Performance:
In “Killers of the Flower Moon,” Gladstone delivers a haunting performance as Mollie Kyle, an Osage woman who survived the Osage Indian murders of the 1910s–1930s. Inspired by true events and based on David Grann’s 2017 non-fiction book, the film captivates audiences with its outstanding performances and poignant portrayal of an overlooked tragedy in American history.
A Shared Triumph:
Reflecting on her Oscars nomination, Gladstone humbly acknowledges the significance of the moment, recognizing that her achievement carries meaning for countless others. “I happen to be holding it,” she tells Vogue, “but it’s something that carries meaning for so many more people than just me.”
As Lily Gladstone graces the Oscars red carpet, she not only celebrates her own success but also serves as a beacon of inspiration for marginalized communities, proving that representation and recognition are essential steps towards a more inclusive and equitable entertainment industry.
