The Cannes Film Festival is notorious for its strict fashion protocols: glamour of the highest order, and for women, heels are a must. However, Isabelle Huppert made waves on the Croisette yesterday by appearing in what initially looked like a bathrobe, joining the ranks of fashion envelope-pushers on the red carpet.

Huppert didn’t just grab any old robe on her way out of the Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc. For the premiere of Horizon: An American Saga, she wore a white furry custom Balenciaga wrap featuring a belted waist and a thigh-high slit. What truly set the French actor’s look apart was the regal, structured collar that hovered above her shoulders and showcased her décolleté.

To transform her look from bathroom-chic to red carpet-worthy, Huppert accessorized with nude, pointy-toe boots, adhering to the Cannes footwear rule. She also elevated the glam factor with De Beers jewelry, draping multiple diamond necklaces across her neck and chest and adding chunky earrings and rings.

While her Balenciaga robe dress already exuded an air of effortlessness, she took the look to full DGAF status with a pair of impenetrable black sunglasses. We can all learn a thing or two about movie star cool from Isabelle Huppert.
