Johnny Depp is set to make a comeback on the silver screen with his latest film, ‘Jeanne du Barry’, after a four-year hiatus. The period drama, directed by French film star Maïwenn, is scheduled to hit theaters on May 2, marking Depp’s return to cinema since his last release in 2020.

In ‘Jeanne du Barry’, Depp portrays King Louis XV, alongside Maïwenn as Jeanne Vaubernier and Melvil Poupaud as the Comte du Barry. The film follows the captivating tale of Jeanne, a working-class woman determined to ascend the social hierarchy by captivating the heart of the king.

The movie’s synopsis, provided by Vertical Entertainment, promises a riveting narrative filled with intrigue, scandal, and forbidden love. Premiering as an Official Selection at the Cannes Film Festival in 2023, ‘Jeanne du Barry’ has already garnered attention for its captivating storyline and stellar cast.

Depp’s absence from the film industry in recent years has been notable, attributed in part to legal controversies and personal challenges. However, the acclaimed actor expressed his enthusiasm for returning to the spotlight during a press conference in Cannes, dispelling notions of a ‘comeback’ and affirming his ongoing commitment to his craft.

While awaiting the release of ‘Jeanne du Barry’, Johnny Depp has kept busy with other creative endeavors, including touring with his rock band Hollywood Vampires and lending his voice to animated projects. Nonetheless, his return to the big screen is eagerly anticipated by fans and industry enthusiasts alike, marking a new chapter in the actor’s illustrious career.
